Summer time – travel time. For many Austrians this means traveling on one of Austria’s motorways. In the new three-part documentary, ORFIII is “On the Road in Austria”: on the Westautobahn to Salzburg, then south on the Tauernautobahn and back on the Südautobahn to Vienna. Those who travel often only have their destination in the distance in mind and do not see the beauties around them. For example, the route from Vienna to Salzburg offers a good cross-section of Austria’s cultural landscape – from the Vienna Woods, past Melk and the Wachau, the Danube metropolis of Linz to the Salzburg Alps and Lake Mondsee. The film shows the route from the air using aerial footage. At the same time, the directors Christian Puluj, Elly Senger-Weiss, Eva-Maria Berger and Wolfgang Niedermair shine a spotlight on the infrastructure of the route and the people who work there.
